Triptych - Northen Wei Painting
Buddha’s birthday image processions in Northen Wei, LUOYANG, 503 – 528 CE. Over 1000 carriages of Buddha statues paraded the street in the city of Luoyang Northern Wei, China. Dr Cowardin portrayed how the teachings of the Buddha were expressed for over 2,500 years around the world. Starting from the auspicious birth of the future Buddha, Dr Cowardin traced how rulers supported saṅgha (monastic) members, devotees built stūpas and temples as well as created images, and translators toiled to make precious texts available.
