In Australia, BBEP 2015 Theme is " The Buddha and I: Connecting to the Buddha". Keyword is “and” – focusing on Connection and Education. Three days workshop ran over the Easter holiday as they learn about Bathing Buddha, The Lumbini Garden, Buddhacarita and Life of the Buddha.

The Buddhacarita is the first full-length biography of the Buddha known to us today. It was written by Aśvaghoṣa, a monk poet serving under Gandhāra’s King Kaniṣka. This Sanskrit masterpiece in twenty-eight chapters served to introduce the Buddha in order to promote the faith in Gandhāra.
This was translated into the Chinese as Fosuo xingzan in 414 – 426 during the Northern Liang Dynasty of the Sixteen Kingdoms.

The Buddha was born between 600 – 500 BCE in the kingdom of Kapilavastu which was ruled by the Śākyas. The Buddha’s father, Śuddhodana, was king of the Śākyas, and his mother was Māyādevī. This animation documents the life of the Buddha who was born for the welfare of the world. After he was awakened to the root of suffering, ignorance, and a path to remove suffering, the Buddha spent forty-five years teaching the Dharma. At the age of eighty, under a pair of sāla trees, the Buddha entered final parinirvāṇa. The legacy he left his disciples was profound. Many Buddhist masters, including Venerable Master Hsing Yun, have devoted their lives to the transmission of the Buddha’s message. This video ends at the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Centre that is dedicated to the life of such a great historical figure.
